I have been playing with Linux VPSs for about a year now. I am not an expert, but I've learned enough that I am ready to document my journey and share some insights I've gathered over the last year.
I wanted to be able to host my own website, but also play with various Docker images and open-source software. I've been fascinated with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) for decades. I want to use as much of it as I can. However, I understand that is not always practical. So, while I love FOSS, I am not a snob about it. I hope my site is useful to like-minded people that will learn and share knowledge.
I am starting a series of articles to help you setup a VPS server for yourself. I will show you how to get a very inexpensive Virtual Private Server to play with. You can get one as low as $1/mo. (when on sale) at RackNerd.com. Visit my page about RackNerd for more details. If you use my affiliate link, I would greatly appreciate it.
At the time of this writing, you can get a Linux VPS server with 1GB RAM and 24GB SSD storage for under $12/yr. This is perfect for exploring and learning.
Here is the first in a series I plan to write.
